Love this idea!
This could add a new dynamic to mining in higher tier areas, giving mining vessels a reason to have more shields etc.

Maybe a new subsystem to be "invisible to mines" with various ranges.

The mines could belong to a faction. If you're "allied" or "excellent" with them the mines wont approach. Or perhaps you have to buy a module from the faction to put on your mining vessels which prevents the mines from approaching that craft.

Actually I was going to make a suggestion of adding "limpet" mines as a variation on the torpedo launcher.  Using the same torpedo storage but facing "backwards" to leave mines attracted to pursuing ships.  Force cannons could then push away mines, finally giving me a reason to use them on ships 😄
