I added a photosensitivity warning because viewing the thrusters actually made me nauseous. Thrusters doing well on my laptop. Tested just now. I do think it is a low-end graphic card issue, or did you tried update the graphic card driver? Yep - Since thrusters are low HP it makes sense to wrap them in armor or larger ship parts anyway. Also - the smaller your thrusters are, the smaller the exhaust plume will be.
