Improved Combat Mission Diversity

Suggestion

Currently, the game balance relies heavily on the player participating in the economy, and even combat orientated activities such as outfitting ships with a full suite of matching combat turrets requires significant expense. Additional to this, the vast majority of encountered missions are trade-related by nature, and the frequency of these missions being offered is comparatively low - exacerbated further by the fact that they are offered at non-trade related stations, whereas the majority of stations within the game are trade related.

Basically, combat orientated playstyles should have the ability to accrue money by participating in missions that pay specifically for combat, and I believe the frequency and diversity of these missions should be expanded to further support careers in factional warfare/border security or perhaps bounty-hunting/assassination.

Examples of  such missions could be as follows:

Military/Privateer

  • Military outposts have a very high chance of spawning "Hunt Enemy Warships/Enemy Fleet" (if engaged in war with another faction) or "Hunt Xsotan/Pirate groups". The player could be either directed to a given sector, or given a number of random sectors to investigate (similar to S and R missions). All targets must be destroyed.
  • There is a lower chance of spawning assassinations against high value target, which could consist of a single hardened target protected by a small escort group. Once the player locates these and jumps in, a timer starts before a (very large) amount of reinforcements arrive, so the player has to kill a hardened target quickly as opposed to a group.
  • Bounty Hunting: Kill "X" amount of ships of pirates, no timer. For these, the player is not given a fixed sector target - the enemies should spawn dynamically, perhaps as normal during a sector event, or by the random occurrence of enemy ships in a yellow mass sector.

Illegal Combat

  • Available at smuggler docks/shipyards - spawn assassinations similar to the one mentioned above, but with an improved emphasis on pirates/rival smugglers rather than military targets.
  • Convoy Attack - attack X ships of cargo convoy in a lightning raid. Introduce the mission by stating the players ship has been fitted with a "jamming device" that prevents hyperspace and distress commnucations. The timer starts immediately before the device "burns itself out", and the goal is to destroy a convoy of ships before they can call for reinforcements. The player is paid for the successful destruction of the convoy, and can also salvage the ships at leisure.
