Improve Legendary Turrets

Suggestion

Currently, several members of the community agree that legendary turrets are incredibly underwhelming and easily outperformed by normal turrets. Legendary turrets don't feel special or unique enough to justify their name. Rather than put yourself through the headache of trying to rebalance the stats of what already exists (while trying not to break the game), I propose you leave the stats as is, and add a new system that allows players to improve upon legendary turrets further. A system that would allow players to choose between several sets of upgrades to customize and empower their turret in exchange for credits or some rare material that can (preferably) only be obtained from somewhere that presents danger or a challenge. Maybe this upgrade gives the turret better stats. Maybe it gives the turret a new or expanded ability. Something to make the turret even more unique and meaningful as long as the player puts in the effort to persue that power. It also adds plenty of room for you guys to be even more creative and experimental with each these turrets. Again, the community thinks that these turrets are weak, so why don't we use this as a stepping stone to expand them further?

On the other hand, several members of the community consider legendary turrets a nice addition to the game.
Again, the community thinks these turrets are fine the way they are, so why can't we just leave them as is?

Those are the legendary turrets I found so far. They might be useful at early~mid game, but not powerful enough for end-game...

Also I kind of dislike that they are dropped only one at a time (and this also applies to other turret drops as well) which means that it is extremely difficult to make a symmetrical turret setup with turrets of the same type with the same fire rate on the opposite sides of a ship unless they are placed along the middle axis but that doesn't just look good when there are a bunch of turrets in one spot just because of that limitation.

Maybe they should be allowed to convert to blueprint/fighter. They're not really powerful so mass producing them hardly affects balance. Maybe keeping their special properties when merging same type of turrets in a research station is also necessary.

Legendary turrets are indeed quite weak for how hard they are to obtain, see the turret pictures above none are over 2k dps (or are civil turrets) but on the other hand a direct buff could possibly throw off balance. This new upgradable turrets system will add another really cool gimmick to legendary turrets that doesnt significantly throw off balance

I would suggest adding an upgrade that adds independent targeting

when Koonschi said we should try them first we found some special abilitys... most of them don't make the turret good magically. We definitley need a buff for those or at least the possibility to upgrade them somehow. (not that they are good at tech 52)... They are fun but really no match for traditional turrets.
