Friendly fire reduced damage

Hello everyone,

I came with this idea because of a recent bug that makes my ship turrets shoot at each other after ordering multiple ships to escort a target, one of them having really high DPS weapons and literally melted my other ship within a few seconds. Despite having that idea because of a bug, I remember my ships badly damaging if not completely destroying other ships because the AI will shoot at an enemy no matter if there is a friendly ship in the way. This issue can be significant when using high DPS weapons.

The idea is simple, reduce friendly fire for ships/stations owned by the player, as well as factions with a Good, Excellent, and Allied status towards the player. If the player really want to be mean, perhaps that reduced damage will go away after a few seconds.

Granting a few seconds of reduced damage should allow the ships crossing fire to move away from each other line of fire, and perhaps avoid total destruction if one of them is using a high DPS weapon.

I don't think that we need reduced friendly fire damage, I think it just needs a few changes:

1. Fleet ships will NOT, under any circumstances, open fire on a ship belonging to the same player/alliance. I have had to break up several miniature civil wars between my fleet recently, and it's a huge pain in the butt.

2. Change ship AI to not only cease fire when there is a friendly in the way, but also move to get a better firing solution.

3. Add some way for NPC ships to realize that it's their own damn fault for entering a crossfire between two other ships.

4. Togglable damage cap per shot on friendly ships (For those mammoth 1-shot-1-kill railguns).

If it is a configuration setting the server owner can choose, why not?

I see it more as a thing for PVE servers though, so the admins of those can switch off friendly fire to block a certain kind of players. Also, collision damage off between player ships as an option.
