How do fighters work?

Where would you get fighters from? I hear that you can get them in your hangers on your ships, but I don't know where to go to get them.

You can buy them from Equipment Docks. That's a station type you will have to search for in sectors.

If you have bought some you have to create a squad in the ship menu.

Then you can launch them from the icon on the left side of your screen by pressing the attack button (reticle) using shift to get free mouse movement.

So there is a shop that sells the fighters? I'll look for them now lol

The equipment dock is a station and it sells you fighters. It's icon looks like a SD-card and it should guaranteed find it in your home sector.

Also there are Equipment merchants, which can spawn. They should also sell fighters.

How many types of fighters are there? So far I have seen mining and various different weapons. Are there salvage drones?

There should be fighters for every turret type.

Does any one know how to make fighters go by them self. like with salvage you have to click an object and make them attack but can you make them keep going without having to tell them to attack again? if you have a answer msg me please i would appreciate it thanks  ;)

Is it possible to set repair fighters up so that they will target their mothership? Cause that would be an exceptionally useful feature if it were possible.

 

Even a small hangar full would be good in the case of you clipping an asteroid (which I have been doing more than usual since I greatly increased the scale of my ship (1.5mil - 7.5mil) or taking a small amount of battle damage.
