transferred multiplayer to a dedicated server, Log in as new player??

Hello! Thanks in advance for any help.

 

I did search for answers but the only thing I can really find is this and I don't really understand it:

Basically, we just started and liked the game enough to start a dedicated server.  I transferred everything over (including player data files and index) but we are still signing in as new players. Is there a way to fix this?

 

Being hosted on a linux machine FWIW

 

I have some experience hosting other games (like minecraft) but I just can't seem to figure this one out!
