When have you used computer cores?

I've used computer cores once to reach the next processing requirement instead of scaling up my ship, which I don't like to do. I don't see myself doing that again in the future. Should they be more powerful so they're used more?

Probably. Maybe they can also give something else, like improving the efficiency of other systems or giving adaptive turret slots. Something, really.

 

5x Processing Power to potentially get another system slot isn't nearly enough to compensate for the price of the block. Maybe for smaller ships to fit more durability into a cheap escort ship, but eh.

I’ve used them in designs (usually workshop) that were close to the next unlock and had, imo, too much unused space (void or just lots of blank hull in one area).

 

Otherwise, I feel as though they have no value seems there’s no benefit until you actually hit the next slot unlock level.

There is no use for them at all. If you want more slots, it's better to add 5*more of either thrusters or armour, as these will give you additional benefits (agility/hp) in addition to increasing computing power. It's probably not even more expensive than computer blocks.
