Infinite loading screen - unable to open or create any world since 0.12.7

Hello, I am seeking help debugging Avorion.  I am not a programmer or particularly tech-savvy, so please help guide me in the simplest terms to get this problem fixed.

Almost 3 years ago, I reported in the Steam Discussions for Avorion Bug Reports that the game had stopped opening any world, old or new.  This is still the case.  The old reports are here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/445220/discussions/1/1458455461476223254/

I tried to play the game again after a 2-year hiatus... only to find I still cannot get past the loading screen.  Worse, nothing I do can get me past that barrier.  While it's an okay menu with some interesting ships in the background, I would really like to be able to see more than just this menu.

The loading screen simply lasts forever, and never loads anything.  I have tried waiting for more than 3 hours, and it never gets any further than that screen.  Sometimes... about once in 5 attempts, a little dialog box pops up underneath the game, saying AvorionServer.exe has crashed... but closing it does nothing to the game.  Most of the time, this never appears, and there is no feedback of any kind that something is wrong... other than the loading screen never ending.  The only way of getting out of the infinite loading screen is to kill the game from the Windows Task Manager.

I tried to follow your guides for the logs, but it's too confusing & I couldn't find them.  I tried to use the game's bug reporter, but couldn't find the logs it required.  I don't know what else to do.  I am tired of waiting forever for this to be fixed, so I am reaching out again.

PLEASE help.  Tell me what you need from me, and walk me through how to find it.

I am at the end of my own limited knowledge, but I really would like to resolve this and once again start enjoying your game.

Hi!

Please post your clientlog and, if available, your serverlog.

You can find them by entering %appdata% into the location bar of your File Explorer and opening the "Avorion" folder there. Take the most recent file "clientlog 2020-XXX". If a server log was created you will find it in "galaxies\<yourgalaxy>\serverlog 2020-XXX".

attached my most recent brand-new test galaxy

This is the only clientlog small enough to upload, and my final attempt before giving up.

It's also the only serverlog in this galaxy's folder.

This final attempt was with the Antivirus turned off.  I read that might help, but it didn't work for me.

Like all the others, it got stuck on an infinite loading screen, and I never saw the actual game.

I had to terminate the program via the Windows Task Manager, as always.

I can't attach the clientlogs for any of my other attempts with this galaxy (the ones made without touching the Antivirus), because they are all over 700 kb... but I found this repeating error that pretty much fills 95% of the file:

Thank you. Please try running a dedicated server. You can do this from the main menu:

select Multiplayer -> Dedicated Server -> Start

Try two configurations: with and without "Authenticate Users" checked. Please attach the server logs from these attempts (default location: galaxies\dedicated_server).

Another thing you can try is to join an existing multiplayer server.

First attempt to start a dedicated server (with default settings) failed.

Second attempt (with authenticate users checked) said the server started.

Third attempt (repeat of first attempt, with authenticate off again) said the server started.

So... I guess I can host a game for other people?  I would like to play it though... ???

I tried joining one of the official multiplayer servers... and after a lengthy load time, it worked.

I would prefer to play single-player though. Any idea why that never works?

After closing the game, there was that little Windows dialogue box saying "AvorionServer.exe has stopped working" hiding behind the game again. :-\

Looks like you are having trouble with Steam authentication. Are you starting Avorion through Steam?

As a fallback, you can configure authentication and use of steam via the "server.ini" file in your galaxy folder.

Yes, of course.  It's a Steam game.  I doesn't launch unless Steam is also running.

Umm... you'll have to walk me through that. :-\

The server.ini is in the same folder as the serverlog. In it you'll find the settings I mentioned.

Another way that should work for you is to start a dedicated server and join it via Multiplayer -> Join LAN

I see it... but Windows doesn't know how to open this file type.  How do I edit it?

And what exactly should I look for and change once I get it opened?

Is there no hope of ever getting single-player to work?

How do I edit it?

It's a text file, you can use Notepad to edit it.

Also, if you don't want to edit anything you can try the dedicated server method I described above.
