Ship Designer

Suggestion

I would LOVE a standalone companion app to build ships, but I think a more practical solution would be to change the in game ship builder to have a "designer mode" where instead of making changes to your currently piloted ship, you can make changes to an abstract ship and save them without having to cover crew costs or spend resources or turn off your galaxy and go to a creative galaxy. Could be a whole separate button for "ship designer", maybe rename the current builder to "modify ship"

I really like this idea. I would like to be able use it to create ship component templates to attach to later designs.

I'd also like to see a separation of the layout of a template from it's materials. But I'm not sure if that would add too much complexity to the interface.

I don't like these ideas, you can already do all of this.

In single player, you can just pause the game and you will not pay crew cost, if it bothers you. But it should not, because if you have at least 1 r-miner or any factory, you already have more passive income than crew costs.

You don't "spend resources" when you build ships. If you don't like the changes you've made to your ship and you revert to the previous design, you get all resources and credits back.

If you want to create a component template, you can found a new ship for that (very cheap), or attach the component to your existing ship, then select it, ctrl+c and then press "save from clipboard" in save menu.

In multiplayer, you should not design ships, as it lags the game for everyone. Make your ship in creative mode and only make small changes in multiplayer.
