merging any two blocks removes all custom turrets from the turret bases

merging deletes all custom turrets.

neither the turret base nor the the custom turret have to clip anything, it will happen with a very small turret on a very large turret base.

there was a topic of 2018 with problems of turrets being deleted after repairs. this was fixed. it is not the same bug.
