Just posted Avaris here.

Or refer to Table of Contents, this thread.

Nice !!

Avaris looks great.  Super maneuverable, well done !!

I also like the dramatic poses, lol  8)

I liked the body style of your designs before, but the Avaris seems to take it up a notch.  And I agree, completing the bridge area this way is much cleaner looking with the contiguous lines.

The engine nozzles are cool too.

Not sure why you are not posting your xml's, but can you please mail me the xml for Avaris.  I want to try her out.

In return, I will try my hand at making a variation of your engine nozzle.

Thank you

Lessons Learned

6fPtnpt.jpg

These are some of my lessons learned:

        1.  Avoid using ANY blocks with 0.05 scales, as these are NOT naturally divisible by the Avorion Game Software.

        2.  Build from the inside out.

        3.  Anything is possible.  ... Hmm ... just stop ... think about it.

        4.  Borrowing from other designers is a good thing - but give credit.  It's a community (not a competition).

        5.  Use of a spreadsheet  in ship design and as an aid during in-game construction - then build it

        6.  Jester pointed out that Cargo Hold blocks are optimally placed as one big blob, rather than chucks placed here and there.

        7.  Failure is "failure" if you learning nothing.

with block stats, you can devide avorion blocks and make them the size you want.

I made "realistic" human sized stairs with 0.02 (20cm) steps, or just download my spacely scooter which has many small components

I'm loving everything I see! Warrax, how were you able to post 2 pages of replies on your post without anyone interrupting your clean chain of replies? And did you simply color spreadsheet squares for planning the insides of the ships?

Quick edit: I suggest that you add fins/wings to some boring sides of your ships. Perhaps adding small, colored, and specially-shaped blocks on the sides would help to add detail in lacking areas.

Hi Sneaky

The two pages of no other posts were done by "Replying" repeatedly, and just dropping a few characters in the message as a placeholder.  I planned this Thread in advance, to determine what I wanted for content.  What you can see now is the remnants of that string.  Have a look at each post's individual time stamps, and you can get a sense of how I did this thread.  After I posted ... I think it was twenty replies, I casually went back and edited my "placeholders".

Yes.  All my ships are designed in a spreadsheet first.  I have a general sense of the proportions I want.  Within Excel, I can use macros to count the number of the various colours ... yeah, I know it may seem a little heavy handed, but my builds only take a few hours instead of many, many hours ...

I agree with your final point.  I certainly could do something with the "Boring" sides, etc.  But as I said in opening this thread, the look of simplicity is by design.  For the sake of efficiency, I try to find "functional" ways to make my ship look good.  To my eye, I like the long clean lines, and yes, I realize its not to everyone's taste.

Of course, you would be welcome to "steal" my ideas, and make enhancements that you like.

If you do, please post your designs.  ;)  I would certainly enjoy seeing them.

Again - thank you for your comments, Sneaky.

I hope you enjoy the game.

I am very pleased on what I have read in Update 0.21.

I am going to try out the new version (have not played or posted since November 2018).

I still LOVE this game.  Koonschi (or any devs) if you are reading this - thank you for all your hard work.

Cheers

Early Look at the Æristo

A massive freighter, lol, with a planned build to finish above 2 million cargo.

KiGK8Ui.jpg

Trading is a big deal in my game.

I find it far more interesting than mining alone, and to build massive ships, you need a tonne of cash.

This is early going.  It took a few hours to begin getting the proper dimensions, so, you will have to be patient with me.

... yeah, it still looks like a piece of $%#@, so no pics just yet.

Anyway, this is what I am going for - look wise.

A cross between these two ships, which I profiled earlier - here.

EAW4EvP.jpg

This is what I have come up with so far.

Might take me a day or so to finish it, trimming and all.

I will definitely be posting pics of the ship once it is all done.

Hello Eruner

I do not know yet ...

I can only offer a guess at this stage ... maybe 700,000 cargo in the 12 to 13 slot ship types.

My apologies for my slowness to get the completed design to the community.

And based on your question, I now plan to present the final ship design in these size class categories:

Elite Titan - 15 Slots (oversized)

      Titan - 15 Slots

      Dreadnaught - 14 Slots

      Juggernaut - 13 Slots

      Battle Ship - 12 Slots

Interesting... Maybe I should post some of my weird ship designs on here. But my Ship Classification System goes like this.

Class - Number of System Slots

Heavy Fighter - 1

Escort - 2-3

Corvette - 4-5

Frigate - 6-7

Destroyer - 8-9

Cruiser - 10-11

Battleship - 12-13

Dreadnought - 14-15

Of course, Vis.

I look forward seeing your designs.

I am sure most player/designers have their own ship class system.

And that a variety of approaches is helpful, so that people can choose s system they like, or borrow ideas to shape their own.

Cheers !!

I am trying out the release, v1.0.  Looks great so far ...

As mentioned before, a big part of my game are freighters.  Especially as I get past Destroyers (9 Modules).

So, on my return to the game, I know that I will eventually bump into the need for an appealing  Freighter design.

I have finally settled on the design I want, the Reugeot 905:

And some more images I found.

I hope in a few weeks, I will have a finished ship to share.

In the meantime, enjoy the game !!

Hi Warrax,

While waiting for your design, I decided to make an attempt myself. Be kind, as this is my first ship design I've ever made from scratch.  I like the name - Æristo - so I started to use it.  (Though, I have gone back to my own ship-naming system).

Oh, and I used the template that you sent me for engine nozzles.

I hope you like this version. I messaged you the XML.

Please keep posting new stuff, I like the look of your designs and the way they fly !!  :D

My little fleet with two miners and your Algoma.  (Thanx for the Algoma XML btw, Warr)

(Warr, you should post the Algoma sometime, it's great as an entry in the Interceptor Class).

Very nice !!  Well done, Jester!!

I like your take on the Reugeot 905 (which was a featured artwork, here).

You have a talent ... I hope you continue to explore (and share).  And I am pleased that you posted your design (above).    My thanx  ;D

I've been working on my own version for a decent hauler, and I am close to a final product.  I will post my initial work later today.

As I was nearing the end of that initial build, I was hit with a spurt of innovation that could not be applied to the current build.

Your posting gave me a few more ideas.

... I guess I will need to do another one ... lol

I wonder if I could incorporate your design into the Freighter Section of this thread, Jester?

For my game-play, I will want a range of ship sizes.  I suspect other Avorion Players will want/need the same.

Thanx again,

Cheers

Starting Game

Just some action shots of Crab doing some mining with an early-game sidekick.

A ship is graciously donated by an early-game NPC encounter.  I converted it as soon as I could to a similar sized Crab.

Early-game quests also provide players with two (2) nice Mining Turrets.

It was nice of them to stop their work for a pose ... lol

Ærduus

Freighter of the Corvette or Frigate Class - 7 to 8 Module Upgrade Slots

7HE7EuW.jpg

The Ærduus is ideally suited as a Miner or Fleet Miner.  By mid-game, you may find its cargo hold a little deficient to operate this ship as a dedicated Trader.  In any case, the Ærduus is intended to grow within my play, so I have created models based on the availability of materials (less mentions of iron):

  • Titanium,
  • Titanium / Naonite,
  • Titanium / Naonite / Trinium,
  • Trinium, and
  • Trinium / Xanion.

During the build effort for Ærduus, I hit upon several innovations.  And the efforts of Jester, also proved to be another source of ideas and inspiration - thanks for that !!  :)

Since using the ship in-game, I realized that the small joiner from the powered unit to the cargo portion can be a bit of a risk.  I had a bit of an unfortunate crash with it, so I suggest using additional connectors, so you dont lose your entire ship in a small crash ... lol ...

Since the 1.0 release, I am happily back playing Avorion again.  And wow - the Mining aspect of the game has been vastly improved.  (Thank you, Koonschi !!)

My game now revolves less around trading to make money.  Now, I use my mining fleet.

As you will see (below) you can make HUGE money with a modest Fleet deployment and the right equipment.

I had to stage this shot ... these ships mine so fast ...

This block of 100+k Trinium was reduced down and hauled away in less than 3 minutes.
