The current system of modding leaves a lot to be desired, yes. I'm personally a big fan of Dirtyredz' approach, which involves very minimal vanilla file editing to create a hook and a separate mods folder that contains all the actual code. Reinstalling mods this way involves little more than adding the hook back at the end of the vanilla file, rather than going through the entire code and trying to see where to reinsert your modifications, as with the classical approach.

 

I recommend all modders reading this follow this approach, as too I will try to once I get my head around how to set it up properly (Dirtyredz, if you are reading this, a tutorial would be much, much appreciated).

I'm in the process of creating a mod manager for in the meantime - but until the Steam Workshop mods portal comes online, I guess we'll just have to hang in there.
