Target prediction module

Suggestion

Those are called modules, right? Upgrades, whatever... Anyway! The idea is to get a module that shows where your target will be when the projectile reaches it. Basically, you'd get an indicator where an AI would shoot if it were in your ship.

The following is just an example, I'd be glad if only the Petty version got implemented.

Petty - Assumes the enemy has constant velocity and direction

Common - Adds the player's speed into calculation

Uncommon - Shows indicators for all projectile speeds your ship can fire, not just the slowest projectile

Rare - Shows indicators for all hostiles

Exceptional - Takes turning and acceleration into account (arc prediction)

Exotic - Allows turrets that auto-aim to benefit from those predictions

Legendary - Allows all turrets to auto-aim

If it looks too twitchy, it could average the last 0.3 (or whatever) seconds of changes and the prediction go with that.

These could also be the diferences in fighter skills or different AI ships that spawn.

Some boss could be a small, "ninja" ship that's trying to kite you and aims accurately.

(Edited common and exceptional)

Awesome idea, especially as there is no prediction on the targeting reticle at the moment, so dodging and firing accurately are nigh-on impossible with low fire-rate weapons (again discouraging fast and nimble ships upon ponderous ones), even in singleplayer.

I think a first-person view and tighter flight controls would be necessary to fully take advantage of it though. With turret locked weapons it's difficult to tell where your exact point of aim actually is.

The indicator(s) would show where you need to click with your cursor for the projectile to hit the center of volume (or mass or whatever is easier to code). Seeing that, you could shoot a bit to the left to hit something on the left side.

But 3rd-person view shouldn't make much of a difference. It's like piloting a bigger ship with your weapons further down and forward and your cockpit where your camera is. And that's why I like those circular indicators for each weapon. They show you which direction your weapons are shooting from and how far they are.
