Hey players, hey devs,

 

At the moment I find it hard to actually do what I want in Avorion. I want to tell why that is and what I think could be done to improve the game drastically. If you agree or disagree with me, feel free to comment.

 

- CREW: I like that the game has a crew system. It adds to immersion and motivates players to achieve a steady income. However, I don't like that I have to hire crew at stations. While this makes sense, it makes building or enhancing ships and stations tedious. I suggest: Cut the hiring system. Cut the crew level system. Keep the rest and automatically add and remove crew to ships and stations. If not, at least add a command for adding crew via console.

 

- STATIONS: Stations are great, but need a lot of love. At the moment, there's no reason why we need specialised ships for founding a station. Just make every ship able to found a station OR make shipyards sell blueprinted ships for easy building of customized stations. I also suggest including the station complex mod in vanilla. Make every station buildable (shipyard, repair dock, ...).

The ability to build functional jump gates to connect sectors and create trading routes would also be pretty great.

 

- AI: Add ability to create fleets and enhance AI functionality by adding more commands like "Trade in this sector". There are mods for that which should also just be included in vanilla. Also, make Turrets cut their fire if frieldies are in their line of sight.

 

- ALLIANCE: Make alliance members able to add or remove existing ships and stations to alliance inventory. Everything that an alliance ship mines, salvages or picks up should be directly added to alliance inventory.

 

- COLORS: Colors should either be available from the start or at least saved to the player profile (across servers or games). A command for adding all colors should be implemented.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your suggestion, but, if crew members just magically appear and disappear on your ship as needed, then doesn't that effectively turn into a plain "ship upkeep cost" system?  And, if so, then why not just charge upkeep on ships directly and skip over the middle step of tracking crew members?

Mostly because the crew system is already there and (to me) it helps with immersion. But you're right, my suggestion would practically turn into a basic upkeep cost.

Thing is, Avorion tries to be a lot of things, but at the moment handles nothing really well. Cutting content would help with creating a more streamlined experience. Crew management is just a must-do and doesn't have any benefits right now.

 

/ I'm an open-minded guy and I just wanted to post some things that came to my mind, so I'm willing to discuss these things. ;-)
