Avorion purchase availability only through steam?

A moderator posted on the steam board a while ago stating that Avorion was only being sold on steam, but I keep seeing people posting on the board who seem to be active players who do not seem to own the game on steam.

 

While family sharing is always a possibility, in some cases it seems not (users state not-family sharing).

 

Is Avorion being sold elsewhere, or is this a case of dirty-play somewhere?

I personally use my MDKell account to buy all my games and use fam share to play all of them on LordMaddog.

 

I do this because I have lost games to BS bans for using SweetFX/Reashade and my PlayStation 4 controller app.  One of the main reasons I hate steam!

It's true that it's also possible they play games on one account, and post on another.

I don't really like approaching these kinds of things because of that. There's too many possibilities and not enough ways to really be sure unless an individual explains it directly.

 

I suppose in the end, it's a moot question.

Remember a lot of people already had the game way before it was ever released on Steam.

As it stands right now, at least to my knowledge, the only place to officially buy the game is Steam. The demo should be the only version which was not distributed through Steam.
