From the first day I played, it irritated me that many randomly-generated factions have "The Pirates of..." as part of their name. As it happened, the allied faction in my start sector on my first playthrough was like that. :( (Also, there was another faction nearby like that.)
When I tried to discuss on the forum about a way in which I lost rep with "The Pirates of Tloeciiyi", someone replied that I shouldn't worry about my rep with them. They're pirates! He failed to understand that I was talking about a faction and not those waves of bandit invaders.
It creates such confusion to have randomly-generated factions with "Pirates" in the name because factions are quite different from bandit-type "Pirates". Also, I just don't like working for law-abiding, respectable "Pirates" that will confiscate any unlicensed or illegal cargo and impose a heavy fine. ::)
Can't the name be reserved specifically for bandits?
