Collision Mechanic Bugs

I've been hearing a lot of weird reports regarding collisions in Avorion.  People seemed to be blame the IFGs so I did some testing.  I was able to get crashes that should work as you'd expect.  However, sometimes this would happen...

The point of collision was between the spike on my wing there and the asteroid.  You can see the asteroid lost a piece in the right place, but what's up with my ship?  It was destroyed, spike is fine, and I lost my engine.

Going to the underside of the ship a gyro and thruster attached to it were also destroyed.  People have been chalking this up to the IFGs doing something weird so tested some crashes without IFGs.

This isn't different at all!  But, it is!  As you can see I lost the arm on the other side.  The part farthest from the collision.

I did some ship to ship collisions as well.  Those appeared to be working as intended when they happened.  I did have a problem with the ships passing through each other if I was boosting.

To me the whole collision mechanic seems a bit off.

One tiny piece of asteroid can crash a large ship that has IGF's while some collisions do hardly any damage at all when they should.

This probably also has to do with the damage model since collisions are doubled on the ships HP altough just a few blocks are destroyed.

I'd love to see Robocraft mechanics where damage spreads through the block of impact, spreading the remaining damage over the nearby blocks. If the remaining damage on the blocks around it is still too large for that block, it is destroyed as well. This untill the remaining damage can no longer destroy a connecting block, in which it would go for the main pool of HP.

This type of damage spread will literally leave chunks out of your ship instead of destroying your whole ship on the slightest impacts.

It's even weirder when you have specifically shaped ships (this is on the stable branch, by the way).

I have a bunch of automated ships flying around, and sometimes they get stuck on each other. I have to manually fly them apart to get them unstuck.

They don't take damage while being stuck, even though they're jittering like crazy, but do take damage on collision and subsequent manual disconnect.

The ships in question overlap I'd say about 25%, can't move in any direction on their own (if I try to make them come to me by the escort function, they are still stuck, no matter from which direction I give the order)

I think I read another thread about this bizarre behaviour, but can't find that one anymore.

As to the OP, I've noticed things getting damaged that are nowhere near the point of impact, so like you, I'm not really sure what's going on.
