Zombie / Flood - Boarders

Add a new type of crew member created from cloning vats known as a zombie boarder. Zombie boarders have the advantage of being able to kill another ships crew and turn their crew into more zombie boarders. They however, cannot take control of the ship and must be retrieved by the clone ship, and they may or may not also require energy to contain. 

Additionally, zombie boarders have a between 2-6% chance of turning into mutagen boarders. Mutagen boarders are essentially like the flood/zerg/tyranids/necromorphs. Mutagen boarders have no alliances (even with the player) and will also spread like the zombies. The primary difference however, is that they can take control of ships, and can eventually convert ship turrets into boarding guns which fire mutagen torpedo's at other ships, spreading the infection to them. 

 

Basically, zombie boarders would be very powerful bioweapon, but using them on larger targets such as stations runs the risk of creating the mutagen which could eventually become an existential threat to entire areas. Additionally, if your ship were to run out of power while carrying them...well I think we all know where that goes.

I like the idea, but I would prefer enemy vessels trying to board my ships with something like that. Problem is, that you usually deal with MANY ships and its impossible to keep track of your one or two specialised boarding ships with zombies on them (at least in the current Galaxy / Fleet UI)

Having this as some sort of Alien threat, maybe by the Xsostan, would be great.

Have you ever played the game "Space Pirates and Zombies"?

 

Your idea reminds me of the end game zombie outbreak that tries to take over every sector in the game!

 

I would love to see a version like this in Avorion,
