Hey Avorion players and dev's,

 

i have collected some suggestions for the editor (building mode) from the community and my self. Any suggestions for the editor, that are posted in this thread will be collected here:

  • Editor in the main menu with extra features:
    • Start in empty space without any possibility to encounter npc's.
    • Infinity resources.
    • You can add or remove crew from your ship or set this in a auto mode.
    • The ship/station can't be damaged, no damaging over time (because of lacking crew).
    • Ability to change the skybox and create astroid, space nebula's (for screenshots).

    [*]Better snapping for blocks to prevent the creation of micro holes and shadow bugs.

    [*]Changing the size of already builded blocks with the hotkeys or in the block stats menu:

    • For changing the size of the starting block easier.(from Sable Phoenix)

    [*]Placeable blocks outside of the spaceship / station, which must be connected to display outside the editor.

    [*]The smallest grid size and scale step should be 0.01 and a field for entering the values would be nice.

    [*]Mirroring on multiple axes at the same time with the ability to select multiple anchor points.(from Akogishi)

    [*]The shield effect should not be displayed.

    [*]A toggle button for displaying the integrity field range.

    [*]A toggle button to show ship/stations stats with max. crew.

    [*]A toggle button to disable shadows in the editor (for building stuff inside a closed hull).

    [*]A menu to up-/downgrade the special blocks like generators etc. or the whole ship/station to another material.(from kurikaktus)

    [*]Grouping of blocks in layer to easily delete, changing color, upgrade or make them invisible (in the editor only) for better building¹.(from QuikSnap)

    [*]Block stats menu:

    • Math. calculation for values like 15/2 = 7.5.
    • Should only accept numbers and *,/,+,-,^ (for math. calc.).
    • Pressing "Return/Enter" should always accept the entered values (and not open the chat...).
    • A ",/comma" should be also accepted as decimal point.

    [*]More options in the building inventory like:

    • To filter blocks by material.
    • To filter weapons by special special attributes, types etc..
    • To sort weapons by damage per second, energy costs etc..
    • A possibility to mark turrets as favorite, for easier swapping between unarmed and armed turrets(A warning when you try to sell a favorite turret would also be nice)¹.(from Nozeron)

    [*]Freecam mode, to build like in other games (SE for example) but so that you can continue to fly through blocks.(from Muphet)

    [*]Attributes of selected weapons that are already build should be displayed in a small window like other blocks.(>v0.10.2.7448)

    [*]The actual cost of the ship/station should be displayed.

    [*]Sorting at the saved ships screen (by name, by save date, etc.).(from Zobaken)

    [*]Multicolor patterns for painting (stripes, dots, etc.), different logos, numbers and letters for ships/stations¹.(from Zobaken)

    [*]Bigger block overlapping to allow more design possibilities.(from Nozeron)

    [*]All blocks should be available in all shapes:

    • exclude the thrusters, engines, hangar, dock, solar panel, they should be only available as block and edge.
    • exclude the turret rotation lock, that should be only available as block.

Hallo Avorion Spieler und Entwickler,

ich habe mehrere Verbesserungsvorschläge für den Editor(Baumenü) aus den Foren und mir selbst zusammengetragen. Jeder Verbesserungsvorschlag zum Editor der hier veröffentlicht wird, wandert in diesen Eintrag:

  • Einen Editor im Hauptmenü mit extra Funktionen:
    • Man startet in einen leeren Sonnensystem ohne jegliche NPC's.
    • Unendliche Rohstoffe.
    • Die Mannschaft kann manuell oder mit einem Automatikmodus hinzugefügt oder abgezogen werden.
    • Das Raumschiff/Station ist unzerstörbar und nimmt auch keinen schaden über Zeit (mangels Mannschaft etc.).
    • Eine Möglichkeit den Hintergrund zu ändern und Asteroiden oder Weltraumnebel hinzuzufügen (für Fotos).

    [*]Besseres zentrieren der Block Platzierung um micro Löcher und Schattenfehler zu beseitigen.

    [*]Eine Möglichkeit die größe von bereits gebauten Blöcken im nach hinein zu ändern, mit den Schnelltasten oder im Block Eigenschaften Menü:

    • Um die Größe des Startblocks leichter zu verändern.(von Sable Phoenix)

    [*]Platzieren von Blöcken außerhalb des Raumschiffes/Station, die aber verbunden werden müssen um außerhalb des Editor angezeigt zu werden.

    [*]Die kleinste Gittergröße und Skalierungsfaktor sollte 0.01 sein und ein Feld für die direkte Eingabe der Werte wäre schön.

    [*]Spiegeln auf mehreren Achsen gleichzeitig mit der Möglichkeit mehre Ankerpunkte festzulegen.(von Akogishi)

    [*]Der Schildeffekt sollte nicht dargestellt.

    [*]Einen Schalter um den Bereich des Inigritätsfeldes dauerhaft anzeigen zu lassen.

    [*]Einen Schalter um sich die Statistik vom Schiff mit maximaler Mannschaft anzeigen zu lassen.

    [*]Einen Schalter um Schatten zu deaktivieren (zum besseren bauen in geschlossenen Schiffen).

    [*]Ein Menü zum ändern der Rohstoffe bestimmter Komponenten wie den Generatoren oder dem ganzen Schiffes.(von kurikaktus)

    [*]Gruppieren von Blöcken in Ebenen um sie einfacher zu löschen, die Farbe zu ändern, den Rohstoff zu ändern oder um sie unsichtbar zu machen (nur im Editor) zum besseren bauen¹.(von QuikSnap)

    [*]Block Eigenschaften Menü:

    • Mathe. Berechnung für Werte zb. 15/2 = 7.5.
    • Es sollten nur Zahlen und *,/,+,-,^ (für mathe. Berechnung) akzeptiert werden.
    • Die "Eingabetaste(Enter)" sollte immer die eingegeben Werte bestätigen (und nicht den Chat öffnen...).
    • Ein ",/Kommata" sollte ebenso als dezimaler punkt funktionieren.

    [*]Mehr Möglichkeiten im Bau Inventar:

    • Um Blöcke nur von einem bestimmten Rohstoff angezeigt zu bekommen.
    • Um Waffen nach besonderen Eigenschaften, Typen etc. zu filtern.
    • Um Waffen nach Schaden pro Sekunden, Stromverbrauch etc. zu sortieren.
    • Eine Möglickeit Türme als Favorit zu markieren, für einfacheres tauschen zwischen unbewaffneten und bewaffneten Türmen(Auch eine Warnung beim Verkauf von favorisierten Türmen wäre schön)¹.(von Nozeron)

    [*]Freikamera Modus, um wie in anderen Spielen bauen zu können (zb. SE) aber so dass man weiterhin durch Blöcke fliegen kann.(von Muphet)

    [*]Die Eigenschaften von bereits gebauten ausgewählten Waffen sollte in einem kleinen Fenstern wie bei Blöcken angezeigt werden.(>v0.10.2.7448)

    • Ausgenommen des Geschützturm Dreh Sperren Blocks, er sollte nur als Block verfügbar sein.

I'd like to add 2 things to that if I may.

 

Allow more block overlay. It would allow more inventive designs for ships. I'm hitting a dead-end with my current build, because it's impossible to bring the blocks together properly. Mainly due to the fact that I need to overlay blocks to make it happen, and I can't.

 

With the sorting of the weapons. Would be nice to have a way to save "favored turrets". Early on, I'd have a tone of turrets from time to time. Sometimes I would want to switch to either full offensive, or full mining/salvage. I would have to spend quite a bit of time going through all my turrets, comparing each one each time so I could figure out which ones I wanted. If we had a way to save turrets as favored, that would greatly help switch turrets out when it's needed. This will probably also need a warning for if you're at an upgrade station, and accidently click "Sell" on a favored turret. Or not let the favored turrets show up at all.

I think, things like new resources/materials should not be part of this suggestions collection thread, because thats are game changing things.

Off the top of my head:

I'd like to see functions to, weld 2 blocks that are overlapping or apart, a similar fill(not only to fill a volume, but also to reconcile parts that are not precisely touching and bring them in-line so they can be kept or merged, an ability to morph placed blocks, , real scalable curved blocks, the ability to re-align/move the mirror lines and utilize multiple mirror lines simultaneously, and set the core block manually.

Additionally, a better UI for, and an optimized ways of applying scaled ship presets, instead of the not documented way of pasting to the prefab section, and attaching that way... it's all very unintuitive and difficult to explain.

Having a setting to ignore block clipping would also be a good feature(considering the faction ships clip extensively, I can't see it being a balance issue).

And TBH, creative should have a ton more features. Fighter, item, custom station, as well as crew creation with an interface similar to a free turret factory with a more complete control options including an item duplicator...

Additionally, resizing and panning in UI element windows would fix some problems we have such as the click through, and the inability to see some elements that go outside of a frame or even the fullscreen element.

Idk about allowing scaling in the UI element, but I can't see much reason not to beyond rendering issues... that said, it's not all that hard to deal with.

A dps calculator in the tooltips and an overhaul of sorting capabilities for the inventory, saved prefabs, and any other things that end up in lists... sorting really needs to be customizable for it to be usable in this game as things get WAY out of hand, really quick.

Maybe a toggled lock for items so they can't be accidentally jettisoned, fed to a research station, or sold...

Anyway, that's just my short list I suppose, in case anyone was asking.

SINGLE BLOCK EDITING MODE PLEASE !

The game STARMADE has an incredible buildmode. Incredible. Freecam mode would be outstanding.

Note: the Left Shift key for super freecam flying speed. On massive builds it would help if this Left Shift super flying speed could be changeable so that the builder could travel even faster to different parts of their structure.

***Can we PLEASE be able to have a mode where all the smallest blocks are visible and editable?!  Right now if you want to cut a hole in something, you can't.  There are MANY other applications for this as well.  I understand the current big pieces/shapes/merge system is designed to reduce lag.  That is totally fine.  If we could just temporarily see and edit all the structure's smallest buildable blocks, edit them (add, subtract, change, etc), and then return the ship to it's big shapes/merged state afterwards while retaining the changes I feel it would unleash the creator's mind and freedom.

I KNOOOW. OMG. It wastes so much time not being able to see/do anything while this is happening!

 

 

Avorion is already insane and amazing!  Consideration for these changes/additions would be greatly appreciated.

Ship building, ship editing is one of the big reasons why i like this game so much.

 

Anything that improves the editor is great, BUT

 

Please - keep it simple.  I believe people would get frustrated if its too complex.

Yes, its a fine balance to maintain
