  1. Hm... I don't think it's impossible... Just not necessarily the way other people might think of it. What if you don't render full 3D planet surfaces but have 'planetary landings' where you fly towards the planet and then some sort of menu comes up with options... à la Freelancer or that OXP for Oolite, if anyone understands that reference... http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Planetfall_OXP Anyway, I think it's possible to achieve some sort of planetary landings within the boundaries of Avorion without having a full 3D planet surface. Either way, it's just a thought.
  2. Awesome, thanks for the feedback. You've really got your work cut out for you.
  3. Oh, that's good to know. Looks like a trading system will be my next investment. :)
  4. Wow, good reply, that was really informative. I think keeping some of that info in mind, I might actually get into the trade aspect of the game. :)
  5. It seems like trading in Avorion is and will be a large aspect of the final game. Being an intergalactic trader can actually be pretty fun and rewarding as well. But at this point, for me at least, trading isn't worth the effort. Point is, this tread's just to throw out my thoughts on trading as it currently stands. Also, I feel this thread can be broken up easily into two parts; Suggestions and Tips. Suggestions I'm sure this has already been suggested i one way or another, but just bear with me. Galactic Average - One of the reasons I don't bother with trading is because I have no idea if I'm going to make a profit. I don't know if things being sold are cheap or expensive relative to the prices of other stations. This is where the 'Galactic Average' comes into play. It shows you the average price for said commodity based upon every single price in the galaxy. This would make it easier to buy goods in an area where they're sold for less than the galactic average, and sell them in an area where they're being bought for more than the galactic average. You would know for sure that you're going to make a profit! I'm sure an Economy system will make it's way into the game eventually, I just hope that this is a part of it when it does come. Tips So until these finer details of the game come into fruition, I'd love to hear your tips and strategies for trading of goods. -Do you manually mark down the sell/buy prices in a given sector? -Is there even a secret at all? Can you just buy, sell, and profit? At any rate, thanks for reading this thread and please let me know what you think. :)
  6. If I closed ports? How can I create a server through hamachi? Haha, that's all I know on the matter. Hopefully you'll find someone who knows more about server-ing than I do.
  7. I'm not 100% sure on this because I haven't messed around with the multiplayer yet. I want to, but I can't find a public server other than Freejack's but he's not on the most recent version. 1. Set up a single player game, before you start though, make sure 'Public Game' is checked. 2. Find your IP adress. http://www.whatismyip.com/ 3. Give your IP adress to your friend or anyone else you want to play with. 4. Have fun?
  8. I figured, contraband is something you'd expect to see. Thanks for the feedback. :)
  9. Avorion is an incredibly immersive game and it has potential out the a**. So here's a handful of ideas/suggestions that I'd like to throw at anybody and everybody that reads this. 1. Docking Now don't get me wrong, docking in Avorion works just fine, it's a system that functions and does what it needs to, but here's how I think it could be improved. I think 'Elite: Dangerous' is probably the best example for what docking could/should be like. So taking Elite's docking model and applying it to Avorion, maybe docking would function like this? 1. Request Docking Clearance - Before you can latch onto a station, you must first ask for permission to dock, otherwise you won't have a specific docking bay to dock with. (Recieve a fine?) i. Once you've gained clearance, you have X minutes to land. (Ability to cancel landing request?/A fine if you don't land in time?) Leaving the Station... 2. Request Permission to Detach Station(?) (Fined if you don't?) i. Small time limit to clear yourself of the docking port. (Fined if you don't?) This is more or less how 'Elite: Dangerous' handles docking and the only reason I'm making comparisons with a different game is because I feel Elite's model adds more to the game in terms of realism without hindering gameplay or making things overly difficult/not fun. On the topic of docking... Maybe when you do dock with the station, the two will connect in some way? Also, at the time of writing this, I haven't moved on from the default drone craft so I'm writing this with that ship in mind, I don't know how this would apply to larger corvettes, frigates, capital ships etc. 2. Docking Relations If you're being a massive DB in say, a sector or to a particular faction... They might not want to let you dock with them... They may refuse your docking requests with certain/all stations. Well crap, what now? The options that come to my mind right away are: A. Wait it out. Wait for relations to improve before trying to dock again. B. Buy your way in. Effectively becoming neutral with the station/faction. C. Complete tasks/actions that will increase relations. P.S. I know the game already has a relations system in place, these were just my thoughts that came along with docking. 3. Contraband Oh yes, that's right, what's a space game without some interstellar smuggling!? Of course you've got your typical illegal cargoes: Narcotics, drugs, munitions... maybe if you're feeling risky, human cargo(or ailen). ;) But hell! Maybe some systems prohibit the importing of certain plants/animals/food/drinks. Just look at some of the restrictions the U.S. BPC has on things being brought into the U.S... Maybe there's a Prohibitive station/planet? No alcohol shipments there... But it doesn't end there... What if when docking, you get chosen for a 'random' inspection... What'll you do then? Bribe the Inspections Officer? Hope he doesn't find the stash? Who knows... 4. Communications This section is just to clarify that all the interactions (i.e. Docking requests, relations, inspections) would take place via menus... Possibly in a 'Communication's Section'? That's all I got for the moment... Just my thoughts on possible improvements to an already very promising game. I'd love to know what you think on the matter, and hey, if you read all of this post, kudos to you. Thanks for reading and leaving any feedback.
