  1. I appreciate your reply, but here's my thoughts on this: 1. You had better hope you are incorrect about the dev team not being concerned about servers because if that is true, there's not a lot of life for this game beyond the core play-through in single player. 2. I don't believe you are correct, or else why the big announcements about Alliances, co-op, etc? That's contradictory, and makes no sense that the devs wouldn't care about mp or servers yet make big announcements about the features coming in mp. 3. If the devs are truly not concerned or don't care enough to answer such a question (a question they should have already answered in a FAQ or forum post since mp is baked into this game), then I guess I'm not concerned enough to do much more than play other games where the developers care enough to at least give the players some idea of what kind of server specs players should shoot for. 4. The dev already has my $18, so haha, shame on me for taking a chance to try an unknown game from an unknown developer, but that's okay because life is full of little lessons like "don't spend your money supporting someone who doesn't care about what you're purchasing from them." *** Since I find it hard to believe the developer(s) of this game intended for it to be multiplayer to the point the dev(s) are working hard on an update called "Alliances" and have shown many screenshots about the advantages it will bring when playing multiplayer/coop, I can only assume you are incorrect and have posted baseless information for whatever reason you chose. Until I hear from a developer, either to inform me what specs are important for various server loads or to confirm what you have said, which is that the dev(s) do not care about multiplayer enough to give players such important information, I will wait (somewhat) patiently for an actual developer to answer my original question. (ie: no offense, but your experiences are not nearly as important to me as word from the actual developer of the game who can shed some light on a very important bit of technical information)
  2. Heh, man, the filter will be almost as useful as the Alliances/friends stuff ;). Just sat my best friend down today and helped him through the tutorial. Pretty sure he's addicted even after getting less than an hour to mess around (we were Eve pirate crew members for 5 of the 7 years I played it).
  3. Can we get a more specific answer from someone on the dev team? I'm about to build another machine as my main gaming rig and want to know if my current machine (still pretty beefy) can handle a 4-player dedicated server where we're all playing at the same time (especially true when Alliances arrive). I already have a quad core server for running dedicated game servers on the LAN, though it's a bit older (but 8GB RAM). I don't want to just list out the specs for either machine as I don't want someone to point to it and say "yeah, that's enough." I really would appreciate a good guideline from the folks making the game so I can decide/build around it for maximum effect. Thanks! (PS: no mods, just the base vanilla game, specs for 4 concurrent players, and if possible, specs up the line for up to 24 players just in case more than 4 of us in our Steam group decide to join up)
  4. New player (and ex-Eve veteran of 7+ years) here. Just bought the game a few days ago and already have 35h or so because it's sort of what I always imagined Eve pve-only / private instances would be like (but with Freelancer-style ship combat!). Really looking forward to Alliances as me, my wife, my best friend, and a few others want to get deep into it for a while (especially with long-term updates that will continue to make the game both better and deeper, giving it tons of future playability). I've got an older Q6600 / 8GB server that we use for other private/dedicated server games (Ark and Insurgency, for instance), and I'm hoping it will be enough. But if Avorion's dedicated server wants more cores/threads (and RAM!), I'm definitely willing to build a new server with one of the new Ryzen R7 or R5 cpus and load it with 16-32GB of RAM, if that will allow 4-10 players to be on the server at any given time (or all together). We're all a pretty tight group of PvE-only co-op gamers, we're all Eve/Freelancer veterans, and while I'm the only one playing Avorion at the moment, they're all getting annoyed on a daily basis at my texts telling them what I'm doing inside the game (just met "The AI" supercube and had a 1+ hour fight thanks to all the Xsotan and pirates and Head Hunters showing up). Adding Alliances / more co-op / faction choices = will make this sleeper hit even better. I'm excited for the day 3-4 of us start exploring all the yellow mass systems on the map and we come across tons of wrecks and derelicts to have a salvage-frenzy party. Hopefully you'll also make it so player-owned stations are sort of like Eve's where we can share storage areas or ship hangars, etc. Sorry for tl;dr wall of text. Seriously loving the game at the moment. Even in Early Access alpha it's more stable, more feature-rich than a lot of "finished" games. Also, huge, HUGE thanks for focusing on co-op/PvE/friends stuff more than anything. It's like Borderlands-Diablo-in-space, and that will keep me and others coming back for a long, long time!
  5. Tonight I fought "The AI" heh. Pretty awesome, and thankfully a bunch of headhunters showed up to kill me but ended up helping me kill The AI (then I killed them, all is well in the galaxy).
  6. Found my first wormhole, which led to me mining my first bits of green stuff! I was able to mine JUST enough green stuff to create my own shield, which was a good idea since everyone else had shields ;). Then got robbed by some jerk who promised me big money for delivering a suspicious package haha.
  7. I read a couple of tips earlier that said do one of the following: 1. Build mostly to the rear of the core block (armor up the starter block but build most of the ship behind it) to get a better view. 2. At the rear of the ship, put a sort of tall/thin tower block. This is what I'm doing at the moment since I already build a nice (but ugly) ship. I tried the framework but it's the first thing that gets destroyed, so I ended up just using a piece of titanium armor. I messed around and adjusted the height to get the right view. I haven't gotten into shields yet so can't say how well either of these will work for that.
  8. Hi, all. Very new player (3 days). Got a couple of questions. I did read the wiki and did some googling, but a lot of the info seems outdated or non-existent. Or I didn't search for the right terms maybe since I'm still learning everything. Anyway, I got an exotic mineral scanner upgrade in the first system after the starter system (heh, yeah, surprised me too!). The range is only 4.79km / 21 asteroids. My question is: is there any way to increase the range? I tried using a gold/yellow tier scan range increase (113% I think), but ore asteroids still only show up with the box around them at 4.79km. I'm not trying to get a 100km range or anything, but if I could double it to 8-10km I'd be happy. Also, does the C43 object detector even work? I've had it on for a while but I never get any kind of prompt or alert that it has found anything. Do I have to get into systems with the green ore or better for anything to show up? And is there any way to tag a wreck so I can go back and salvage/loot it after a fight? I'm getting into systems where I end up killing 10-20 NPC (or two factions go at it and have a huge fight) but I sometimes can't find all the wrecks, especially if they're in front of a planet (usually a dark planet). Or if there's a ton of asteroids. Or a ton of NPC ships and stations. If not, is there a feature addition planned to make this less of a hassle? (I get that the ships break up into blocks but maybe the "core" block or something can have a hotkey to cycle through?). I'm starting to pick up "force" turrets but they seem utterly useless. I was hoping they'd tractor in loot, but they don't =(. Speaking of, is there a way to increase the distance at which my ship hoovers up the loot/ore/whatever? I practically have to fly right into an upgrade/turret to pick it up, and picking up bits of ore means flying around a lot. Again, not asking for a huge 10km range or anything, and I get that it's probably like this for multiplayer or some a-hole would run around snitching all the loot, but man... looting takes longer than killing, and when I've just murdered 10 bad guys, I'm there all night salvaging and looting =/. I keep hoping to find a lot of good info on the wiki, here, or at Reddit, but seems the game hasn't been on the radar / popular until this month (I'd never heard of Avorion before and only happened upon it as I was clicking through the front page in my Steam client looking to see what was featured/on sale). And what info I'm finding seems dated or kind of bare-bones. I'm extremely addicted to the game at the moment and learning it so I can get wife/brother/friends to play (we'll set up a dedicated server as we love co-op pve in a group). Anyway, thanks for any answers or links to helpful info!
  9. I too am terrible at building awesome ships (the corners/edges mess me up bad). However, I did watch one of koonschi's video that is kind of a tutorial on how to build a ship: My first ship was a long square hot dog and it's terrible but mines asteroids pretty well. My second ship looks like the one in that video above but without any corners (just square/rectangle blocks). It has 7 guns on the front and 5 salvage lasers just above and behind the main guns. It's not pretty but man it blows stuff up (and salvages) fast. I'm still in titanium, haven't even hit a system with the green ore yet, but with the field generator, a few gyros, a ton of thrusters, and 5 regular size engines (whatever the starting block size of the ship is), it's like flying a Rifter in Eve ;). Plus I learned to build a little indention in the front to stack all of my main guns inside so they all shoot basically a "tube" of bullets instead of having them spread out all over the hull (where half the guns wouldn't hit anything). I'm sure this is stupid and wrong, but I don't care at the moment because I've built a basic little ship that destroys bad guys, can be re-fit for mining lasers in about 30 seconds, and does something like 2km/s with afterburner / boost going. I guess my point is that once I stopped being frustrated with my inability to build awesome looking ships and just build a tanky gunboat, I started (and still am) having a ton of fun. I started playing tonight at 10pm and when I looked at the clock, it was 3:30AM, my titanium was at 60k+ units, my inventory was stuffed with tons of loot (turrets and upgrades), and my bank account is sitting at about $940k (plus a few of my upgrades/turrets are exotics).
  10. Hey, all, I'm AngryGames, and I just bought this last night on Steam. I was a dirty pirate in Eve-Online for 7+ years, played Freelancer until I got to the point even thinking about the game takes me to a dark place (much like Diablo II), wanted Elite and Star Citizen to be more/better than what they are, and only buy games these days that have some kind of co-op campaign/open world (so my wife and I can play together). I think I'm about 7 hours in so far, jumped to some other systems to mine titanium, busted a few pirate heads, salvaged some good wrecks (already found an "Exotic" miner upgrade thing and a few golds and one purple! - don't worry, I don't think it's "too easy" or "too rewarding" as I won't be using any of these upgrades for a while other than the power efficiency one). My first ship = 3 main engines/thrusters and at least 320,000 directional thrusters haha. Seriously, that ship lights up like it's on fire whenever I move the mouse. I watched koonschi's vid on making a basic but cool looking ship (looks like a Rifter from Eve heh), but I'm terrible and my ship looks like a dagger because I'm not good with corners and edges. Not good with anything, to be honest, but I'm learning. I'm excited to keep playing (and to get my wife and some friends into it) as it sort of has that feel I always imagined Eve would have if there was a separate pve-only server. Thank you, dev(s), for making this game pve-focused (so far, anyway), as we're not interested in pvp at all (and if we are, I played Eve too long and blew up or lost too many 4bil isk ships to ever find another pvp game that is that intense). I hope the main story fleshes out even more, though I have no real idea of what it is atm since I'm still tooling around the first few systems blowing up pirates and sometimes aliens now that I've figured out how to get 4 guns attached ;). Right. Shutting up. Hope to keep seeing better and better things for this game, and again, thank you for making a pve open world sandbox survival build-y space game!
