Very great idea! I would like to use it to keep old ships like the first ship I've build which is still following my much larger capital ship and the rest of the fleet some where without the risk of theme being blown up by constant pirat Atascadero that are meant for ships 3 materials higher.
Mothballing them in a neutral sector would be great maybe at the dock of a owned station
As I posted in darkconsole's other thread as well, you don't have to keep your old ships around if you want to 'keep' them. You can just save them and rebuild them down the line if you want with Apply Plan of your saved ship.
Unless, as in darkconsole's case, there's a ton of cargo in your ship you want to keep.

I'm "stuck" on loading as well now, but I'm pretty sure I know why it takes forever. My inventory is enormous at the moment, since I've just left things running, and my defenders/salvagers keep picking up stupid amounts of loot.
I know that all my interactions with my inventory are incredibly slow now (I actually notice lag when the game picks something up, and it takes over 2 seconds to sell an item)
I will clean out my inventory and see if that actually helps.
If it does, that will at least add one more reason for the long loading times to our list.

Aaah :) In that case you could just make a supply depot ship :) Should cut down on the mechanics quite a bit.
Also are you using level 3 specialized mechanics? And how many do you have.. 1.5M would be over 1000 if I'd had a guess.

Steam just rolled out another patch for me? One that SteamCMD apparently can't pick up..
-
Why are you 'mothballing' it? I don't quite understand the concept.
Just take off the crew, all the turrets, etc, save the ship, and tear it all down to refund the materials.
If you want to get it back, just build a 1 block ship at any shipyard and apply the save.

I've been killed a couple of times by asteroids and once by a station, it was a very foggy sector and the station had a long thin aerial/spike sticking out that I didn't see.
the one thing in common with all these deaths was the space bar, it only ever happens when I'm boosting and hit something when going too fast, if I'm not boosting and hit something I'll take some damage but never kill myself.
When watching let's plays I've noticed people seem to use the boost way too much/for too long, this might be part of let's plays, people wanting to cut down on boring travel time to keep the video more interesting.
My tip is to use the boost only in short bursts, keep it to 1-2 seconds only, use it to accelerate up to the normal top speed quickly and to quickly get out of weapon range between you and an enemy but rely on your normal engine to put distance between you.
If you're in an asteroid field never boost unless you have a clear path and are not drifting.
What this man, woman, weird muppet creature said!
If you want to compare it to real life, if you're traveling at 1km/sec (that's 3600km/h or for our weird friends something like 2100 miles per hour at a guess), hitting a marble is going to destroy most of your ship, let alone an asteroid..

A side note, if you're selecting a connection point with ALT held down in paste mode, you do *not* have to click on it! That's messed up my selections from time to time until I realized I only have to point at the block to highlight it.

That definitely doesn't look good. None of my factories looked anything like that, though.
Not sure what's going on there. Never seen factories completely empty.
-
what distance/tech level are you at?
Somewhere in the center, and around 40 or so. I don't remember where exactly I found that station.

Every forum ive signed up for has an internal notification system. You log in, and somewhere (generaly near where forum supported private message notifications are displayed) there is a visual indication of new notifications that when clicked on, will display a navigatable list of notifications.
Email notices are just one more thing to clog your inbox, especially on active threads, or if you follow a dozen at once.
If you read the manual page I linked, this one doesn't :)
I agree it would definitely help, though!

I went to bed :) But it worked fine for me. This is what I got in my mail:

PS: Pretty sure the 'notify' is only supposed to work through email, so if you have that turned off, or haven't supplied an email, then no, this of course won't work.

so went to store got a mastercard with 50 bucks on it and steam wont do the purchase
how to proceed to buy your game now?
SOLVED for the cards that come preloaded USE steams website NOT the client installed on pc....
Might want to let people know that as many use this safer method of buying games....
CYA in da galaxy
Yeah. Prepaid credit cards tend to be very iffy with a lot of companies. Glad to see you got it sorted and welcome to the game! :)

As the title says, I've got into the Naonite area
I'm at a factions home sector, co-ordinates 7, 312, tech level 20
My rep with the faction is 84,109
The cost to set my reconstruction site is $7,762,000
That's rather excessive in my opinion.
Mine's 18 million :) Not sure what it's based on...

Because the unused lower left corner isn't unused, it's for the chat window. And there really is no reason to show your resources all the time, you don't have to constantly check them.
Excuse me, some of us may be consuming things that adversely affect the memory while chilling out to this game and would prefer to know what's up constantly ;)
avorion and chill
Wasn't Avorion poisonous? ??? :P

Very nice looking!

Having some way to make sure your fleet ships are 'jump ready' would help enormously, I absolutely agree.
The reason I feel commands should never be on the client side is that the potential for abuse is far too big.
I'll do some experimenting with trying to get my fleet following me into hyperjump, and see if I can recreate the 'they're not following me' issue.
Most of my fleet just stays in one sector, though :) To provide defence for my factories, to automatically salvage all the wrecks that the defenders produce from various pirates and aliens, and to provide transportation between all my factories (a mod I wrote).

I'm wondering if you're all on the outskirts when trying this, since your stories are completely different from anything I see.
I'm in/near the center, and I just loaded a new sector to see what you were talking about.
It created a Gun Factory (amongst a bunch of others, that's just the first one I checked), with 8863/25000 guns in stock, large amounts of ingredients except Ammunition (which got delivered by a trader while I was writing this) and is now happily making more guns.
Sure I see some factories that are empty, but that's the way the code's written. It's fairly random, but based on location and size of the factory.
So the first sector I create through jumping there, which is *just* inside the center ring (108:94) not only has several factories with lots of stock (checked the others as well).
The Wood Farm wasn't producing anything (but had 1190 oxygen in stock), but started producing when I put energy cells in (which it was missing).
So I guess I'm thoroughly confused and have no idea what you guys are talking about. As I said at the start, are you out near the edge with the tiny factories?
-
You're not confused about the placement of gyros :) You're confused about what gyros are supposed to do.
They'll affect the whole structure of the ship. The way they're implemented isn't very realistic, and they do give a better result when placed in/on the center of mass of your ship (as they should), but you can basically place them anywhere, as Sin said.
Just keep in mind the two things that really affect them: Their size, and the total mass of your ship.
-
but I have seen some YouTubers, Lathrix to be specific, who have gotten some ship systems from them.
All building blocks have a chance to drop loot. I also get loot sometimes from my ship being destroyed when I found a factory.
-
I personally play at 0.25 and haven't ever had a ship blown up. Learning to aim matters :)
Also don't forget brakethrust is actually important.
Having a health slab of armour on the front of your ship helps quite a bit as well. And not going full speed at something that doesn't move.
A further tip: You can rebuild the exact same ship with the "Apply Plan" function from Saved Ships in your building screen.

the display where you get shown how much ressources you picked up got changed from something like "+115" to "1.819.714 (+115)", so it IS still there, just on a new place where it doesnt interfere with the new group UI, which i guess will get alot more important if the Alliance Update comes...
And that's one of the reasons why I want the old display back, so we can get rid of that. It's very distracting and when your miners are out on their own, it's just a total eyesore to see number constantly jumping around in the lower right corner.
If it would be decently formatted, with defined columns, instead of constantly jumping around, it might work, but as it is now, it's far too much information presented in a constantly changing format. Not a good thing for the human eyes and brain.
Preferably all this should be in a format that can be modded, though.

This is fixed in the beta branch?
I'd still like to see an option to just disable it completely.
-
I've never had that happen, thankfully. Sucks :(
