  1. That's some great work there. My first ship also was inspired from the Rociante, but not an exact and faithful representation, just a bit of the general shape and size. Someone else had done one as well, I think I can find the post,... yeah here http://www.avorion.net/forum/index.php/topic,2179.0.html
  2. Good work so far. I can't wait to see what you come up with next. There's at least 2 other people working on a similar project on this forum, you may want to check out what they've built so far. Specifically Maffin, his Hiigaran ships are awesome. http://www.avorion.net/forum/index.php/topic,3247.0.html also I made a version of the Turanic Ion Array Frigate, feel free to use or mod it to your liking. (you can get the file here) http://www.avorion.net/forum/index.php/topic,2644.msg13867.html#msg13867
  3. yay! I was waiting for the next episode! I'm really enjoying your playthrough so far.
  4. WAAAYYY too many curves and not a single straight line for me to even attempt this type of ship. I'd pass on this one. Now anyone whose willing to figure out "egg shape" from angle blocks would have a good headstart on getting this ship done.
  5. I do like building ships, but it's going to be a hard pass on all of those, WAYYY to many angles and curves on all of those. I would guess 100's of hours of work to replicate any of these, at least for me to do so.
  6. Great work! You kind of have to have built ships yourself to really appreciate how much time and effort that must have gone into something like this. I'm Curious, do you have rough estimates on how much time whent into each build?
  7. Great designs! I love how they look like the would fit right into the Homeworld Universe. Simple lines with excellent detailing. I haven't played in a while but I may try to use some of these design aspects in my next build. I love the shaping of the engine exhaust and also the use of light frame blocks for that industrial look on the tiny miner.
  8. Indeed, although a word of caution. If like me you have layered the solar panels to increase power output, selecting the entire vessel and clicking merge merges those solar panels too! I didn't notice for nearly an hour..... It wasn't until I glanced at the overall power output that the penny dropped :'( Annoyingly the merge tool doesn't like corner pieces. Thank the lord for the mirror tool as all corners need manually combining! In other news, Big Red has been out for some space trials. The engineers are strongly advising power upgrades for the equipment slots, and *ahem* TITANIUM! She's Cruiser size with 6 equipment slots. The drone has a home too! Big Red XML - Enjoy I've found that if you want to prevent similar blocks from merging with a "merge all", painting them alternating different colors will prevent them from merging. also useful for thrusters and gyros from merging together when you don't want them to.
  9. Great work Sheel! as for being able to use the gun mounts on the smaller scales, I'm betting if you sacrificed it's rounded shape for a rectangle one, you probably could squeeze a little bit bigger turrets on the smaller scales. or just fill in the turret holes completely with one block (now if only there were moving blocks to have the turrets actually retract and the shutter doors that would also open and close.) But regardless I will download it if for no other reason but to get a closer look on how you finished off the front nose cone. (I couldn't figure it out when I was building my own Rocinante inspired but not 100% detail accurate Starter corvette class )
  10. Great job on the new ships, that small interceptor, I guess it could be used as a small, low cost remote miner\salvager. At a crew of 4 you could have one captain, 2 miners and a mechanic and it should run fine at that job. The crew upkeep would be the lowest possible. You could even just build it when needed for the task and the scrap it (transferring the crew back to your main ship first) when it's time to move on to another sector. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
  11. I used to build model ships and airplanes when i was a kid, and you learn a few things with a good attention to details, like for example, airplanes and ships have a standard for color and placement of Navigation lights. I don't know if anyone's mentioned this before. But I noticed that you have accurate navigation lights. they're meant to help prevent collisions in low visibility conditions. Red on the left and green on the right. the way it works is that for ships that are going in opposite directions, you go for the "green side" of the oncoming ship, and the oncoming ship goes towards your 'green side'. So yeah good job with those. So yeah useful info if anyone is looking to add detailing to their ship, and want to stick with how things are currently done in reality at least, for airplanes ships, and I believe spacecraft also use similar standards. More info on Navigation lights Wiki
  12. Hi Volgraza, I love your ship designs. That sword is a great idea and quite unique. The Split (from X3) would be proud. (their ships are more or less weapon shaped, at least, that's what the lore of that game universe says ;) ) I wonder if you could tweak the sword-ship to have as much pitch or yaw as possible, so you could swing the sword to hit-ram smaller ships. you'd somehow have to make it as tough as possible too so it doesn't break on one hit. Other weapon shapes come to mind, like axe and mace. Maybe those would be better for ship swing-ramming.
  13. The detail work on the Rocinante is excellent, but it looks to be a way bigger scale that the actual ship (Judging from the look of your tiny thruster blocks). Not a big deal if you don't care about scale. The length I found says it's 46 meters in length, (A corvette class ship) so approximately 9 size 1 blocks in length. or 9.2 blocks in length (given in game it says a 0.2 block is 1 meter.) do you think it would scale down correctly to try to reach that scale without loosing much of your detailing?
  14. Ok so I felt this needed to be said again, your ship is awesome. I downloaded it in creative mode, and it looks great next to my Ion Frigates. and it's frigging tough, if a bit difficult (because of size) to maneuver. I ended knocking an asteroid around like if the ship was a baseball bat, with no damage to the ship. It does feel way more maneuverable than it should be for a ship it's size. And especially if you compare it to how Battlecruisers moved in the original Homeworld ( they were as mobile as icebergs) I'm not saying it's improved mobility is a bad thing :) I didn't actually measure your build to see if it was actually 1009 meters in length (3310ft) but it's close enough in my book. My next build will probably be the Turanic Battlecarrier, it's similar in length (958 meters), but way taller.
  15. That's great work, and just as good if not better than what I could have done. I'm going to try it out and see how well it stacks up (theme wise) with my Turanic Ion Array Frigate. I planned on make many Homeworld themed ships anyway, but considering how long it took me to build just one ship, I may consider pulling from other people's designs if I find them adequate. I don't know what you've been using for Homeworld ship references, but I've used the video below as size and scale guides.
