  1. Yeah, cause the ginourmous dev team and monthly server costs will ruin koonschi in no time. /sarcasm The strongest point of EA games like Avorion is that development doesn't need to be rushed. The total dev costs per month are tiny compared to most games. Ofc if the dev gets lazy and stops his work we are screwed, but a) Avorion is already worth the money; and b) that's the inherent risk of buying EA games. ;) What?! How can you say that!? I'm offended that you feel the need to be so careful! ^ Welcome to the internet. :D
  2. Did i say otherwise? No! Can you even imagine implementing PvP into the game and saying "nope, we won't balance it at all!". Ofc the devs say they want to balance it, cause they want to balance EVERYTHING in Avorion... it's kind of what they dream about. :D All i said was PvP isn't important for Avorion, and as such balancing the game towards good PvP should be put on a lower priority.
  3. Last time i checked Avorion wasn't e-sport material anyways, besides: the doesn't even intent to focus on PvP. PvP is one of many features, but the core of Avorion has nothing to do with it. => No reason to focus balance towards PvP use.
  4. If there is anything left to complain it's the speed this update was pumped out. Koonschi, every further update now risks to seem slow in comparison. :P JK
  5. *imagines a hedgehog-like Cube* *buahahhaha* Yeah, that's pretty much what would happen.
  6. This only comes into play in PvP, and PvP isn't the focus of Avorion anyways. How does the op intent to stop players from feeling the need to win in PvP? It's normal to use everything that can provide you an advantage in PVP, some asshats even cheat or use exploits just to win even harder.
  7. On normal enemies only deal 10-20% damage, while easy results in meager 2.5% and insane in proper 100%. The other big thing that changes is starting reputation with factions, on insane many start more hostile. Personally i feel insane is balanced best. It may overwhelm a new player, but once you start do understand the gameplay and building mechanics a lil better insane is no big deal at all.
  8. The last hitting turret counts. Useful for salvaging. ;)
  9. If you are looking for high dps lasers aren't bad, cause omicron really don't show dps at all. I would say it depends on your favourite range, if you get close all the time the answer differs from long range.
  10. Just remove all ship parts? The core can only be removed by disabling "save mode" on the left. Deleted parts always return 100% of their costs (if they aren't damaged).
  11. Not anymore, now they only allow for 10 times the HP per individual block. A block behaves at maximum like it has 1000% HP, 900% are borrowed from nearby blocks. Ofc if your ship is made out of 10 equal blocks the benefits will be the same as before, but ships made out of hundreds or thousends of tiny surface parts feel the change. ;) But for most it's no big deal, cause this just means the integrity field fails to protect some of the low HP surface level parts in case of collisions.
  12. His biggest advantage is that a game like Avorion never really gets old, it's more like fine wine that gets better with time. I can imagine myself playing it five years after a long break and enjoying all the new stuff and mods while ignoring the "dated graphics etc." all together. :) The fanbase will grow with time, there is no reason to hurry and for example mix shifty code into the game just to be faster.
  13. Didn't Lathrix say that's why he disabled the ingame music as well? (probably as a precautionary measure, based on past let's plays)
  14. 1. They only turn aggresive if you shot a weapon while they are in the system. 2. At least for me they go neutral again if i restart the game. Restart Avorion, leave the system, and only go there again if you can defeat them (maybe they leave after a while?). (it's worth a try) PS: You might as well fly far away and just jump with your drone, you don't need a gate to leave.
  15. While building my flagship i left building mode for a moment and bumped into my old ship: 1. My old ship went BOOM 2. I damaged a station and lost half of my new ship. 3. I decided to never ever try to build something large in my normal campaign. Yeah, using a creative mode world to build is the way to go. :(
  16. True. That's why prefer armor on smaller ships. But i build battleships mainly with hull blocks (as a matter of fact solar panels and storage blocks work too). On a battleship i can hide behind uber shields, the occasional shield ignoring shot gets soaked by big integrity field hardened hull blocks. If the block doesn't go boom, mechanics can just repair it.
  17. Absolutely not. Armor (ond some other blocks, like stone) are much much heavier. This means a) they have some advantage on their own; b) you need more engines and thrusters on your ship if you want to build the same sized ship, cause armor is really really heavy; and c) if you build small taking advantage of the high density of armor you lose volume aka possibly some module slots. In fact the current system balances mass vs volume pretty good.
  18. *ouch* (more on why down below) There is more to Avorion then building small and big, believe it or not: we can build medium sized ships that have zero problems with placing high tier turrets. Small neonite frigates get burned near the core? True, but where is the connection to supersized guns? And yes, resizeable turrets would be nice, but they aren't needed to progress like you suggest in your example. But the most important thing you got wrong: Module slots unlock based on ship volume, not mass! This means "big battleships" should use as little ogonite as possible, as a matter of fact: the less "armor" blocks, the better. Ogonite is best used for slightly smaller crafts, their engines and thrusters scale better with the extra mass. Sure a really great "big battleship" won't be uber nimble and agile, but it balances mass, volume, maneuverability and good looks well enough to be a force to be reckoned with. The old way thruster slices could be stacked provided "big battleships" with a level of maneuverability that was laughable and cheesy as hell. They aren't supposed to be agile, building smart and watching your ships mass is all a builder needs to get decent maneuverability, good or great levels shouldn't be a thing for "big battleships" without going crazy on thrusters. PS: I agree with the point about crew recruitment. Getting enough crew turns into a hassle later on, it's a no-fun activity the game just doesn't need that much of.
  19. Searching for hidden stuff in hidden mass systems is fun, but sometimes such a system is full of crates and good stuff, full to the extent of a little confusing. Claimable asteroids change their text color based on the faction that owns them, but secret crates always stay white colored. => Possible solution: hidden things a player interacted with (at close range with f) could change their text color, a light grey would probably suffice.
  20. Ofc if you know the game and build ships with uber shields and uber damage insane is rather harmless, but it's nonetheless multiple times harder then normal. Maybe it's time to suggest an even higher difficulty level, can't be to hard to implement, can it?
  21. You need volume, not mass. If a ship gets big enough it doesn't need armor as armor anymore, reduce your mass as much as you can (but get a lot of volume). At least that's how i roll. :D The funny thing is ogonite as "best" armor material is best cause it's the super dense... on big ships i prefer to inflate my volume with tons of trinium armor.
  22. At that point you might as well go creative mode... Personally using such methods would bore me to death. Besides: Playing the game on insane is where it gets interesting, on normal enemies do just 10-20% of their íntended damage, on insane it's 100%. :)
  23. You probably pushed F2, do it again. :) (there are two control modes, F2 changes between them)
  24. Yes and no. Thrusters now (currently on the beta branch) profit from both volume AND surface area, ofc this means the surface area part got nerfed. Those players that maximized thrust in the old system (surface area only) will lose ALOT of their thrust. And yes, i need to refit some of my ships too. ;) But let's be honest here: The whole 0.05 thruster slice thingy was cheesy as hell. Even more honesty: It still works for solar panels. :P
