  1. Maybe a solution would be to have enemies that somewhat match the player they are spawned for... You wanna go 20 million shields? I'll send you enemies that have high dps and shield bypass... You wanna rack a million omicron on your ship? I'll send you highly armored ships with insane shields to soak it up... etc. Guns, armor and shields also need a bit more of a rock/paper/scissors mode.. give us guns that TOTALLY ignore shields.. Give us insane armor that prevents us from using shields... give us insane shields that prevents us from having armor... and so on.. This way with any loadout, you'd still stumble on packs that can cut through you like butter if you ain't careful.
  2. You need to consider the fact railguns, for some reason, miss about half the time despite being 100% on target. I have a set of crazy railguns I made just for fun and they are pretty bad.. When they hit, they really hurt, but a lot of the time they miss. When they miss it's the whole volley too (they shoot 12 shots/sec, if the first misses, all other miss for some reason). I don't know if it's lag or what, but their track record is pretty terribad in my experience.
  3. I've seen lasers do as much as 5k per second so don't give up yet. Other than that cannons and railguns have the highest omicron when you find broken ones but they also overheat faster than a kitty in heat thrown in a volcano. The highest omicron weapon I've manage to find are my 27K railguns... But I still roll with my 3500 lasers because they are more reliable and constant.
  4. DBC - Universe Obscura - Cosmogenesis Probably not most people's cup of tea, but that's what I roll with.
  5. As it is insane difficulty is a cakewalk for me. Two factors make this so, the first being you can stack shields to infinity. I only have 800k and I can take on 30 ships in avorion sectors without skipping a beat. I could have 5x those shields if I wanted but it would be ridiculous. The second is crafted turrets. I run 10 lasers for 37k sustained omicron. I could slap 40... But there is just no point, even the biggest invasion ships melt in like 2-3 seconds. Not sure what the solution is... Perhaps more enemies with shield bypass would go a long way. Perhaps a cap on shields or some formula where volume to cover is factored in I can run a 100k shield on a tiny ship or on a huge kilometer long behemot and they perform just as well? Seems to me the 100k shield should be stretched thin and perhaps less effecive? As for weapons, it's just too random. Turret factories make all sorts of ridiculous guns and drops are also all over the place.. how is it same tech level guns can vary by 100x their damage? It's just ridiculous.
  6. Don't expect the advertised range to be the actual range though... I think I have yet to find a crafted turret that has the correct range vs it's tooltip.
  7. Yeah in the end they are not so great, for some reason they do zero damage half the time, I think railguns are bugged for that. They overheat on their 10th shot or so, but that's still close to a million damage in one burst. They cooldown quick if I don't let them overheat, so I can shoot another 10 approx every 3 seconds... That's still an absurd amount of DPS. I still prefer my 3500 dps lasers as I hate dealing with cooldowns. In the end, my 10 lasers can handle anything the game throws at me on insane difficulty in a very short time.
  8. The C43 has two functions: 1. It tells you if there is any special objects in the sector as you enter it (or equip it). All colors do this in the same way. 2. They highlight the special objects with a white box. This depends on the quality of the upgrade, red+ is usually sector-wide... others will have a range in kilometers. I think the white/grey don't have this function. It's a very useful upgrade... but it really is more useful in higher quality.
  9. I think you missed the fact that it was 27k PER TURRET, not total. Best I got out of drops was a total of about 30-40k omicron with like 30 turrets installed, these turrets almost do that EACH. I don't use them though they are too OP, it just feels like cheating. I had them for fun when I fought the gate keeper and I took 25% off it's shields in like 5 seconds. All the adds were 1 shots. Proves the point custom turrets are broken. This is with 36 turrets installed: http://imgur.com/a/P9SlD
  10. Keep looking, I found 1000+ dps salvage lasers many times over... I'm still using 3500 dps lasers and I've found better since then, just didn't bother crafting them cause those already melt facea. The crown goes to my 27k omicron railguns, I can take out avorion level sector invasions with a lair of these... Had 40 made just for the heck of it and they vaporize all I throw at them one shot lol.
  11. Just unlucky. I'm very systematic in my exploration technique to make this easier. Whenever I find a civ I make it a point of visiting all it's green dots and raising my rep high enough to be able to deal with them. I try and do this with 2-3+ civs that are close together near the core and then I can just hover the map and locate the factories for what I need. There is always a product or two I can't find easily and I just systematically visit all trade stations one by one until I find... There is one time where I had to expand further on this but most of the time I can gather what I need quickly. I really wish there was a module that remembers where what is sold though... The trade module is better than nothing but not much.
  12. Thanks, I guess I'll revisit the sector and see if he pops up again to make sure.
  13. How are they hit and miss? Every civ I found had at least one factory and often 2-3 of them and every 1/3 factory has at least one absurd combination of OP turret. Then it's just a matter of gathering mats which can be done across 2-3 civs easily, just takes time... Gimme 4 hours on a fresh start and I'll show up to your doorstep with 100k+ omicron no problem.
  14. So I'm running a MP server and I have some friends playing on it... I was first to reach the core and I killed the guardian on my own. What happens when the next player to reach the core goes to 0, 0? Have I "stolen" the boss from everyone by killing it first, or will it respawn for them to kill? I know I can delete the sector and it will be regenerated, I assume this would respawn the boss as well... but I was wondering if I had to intervene, or if all will be good for them. I don't want to steal their thunder.
  15. It's like 10 minutes... This game is more coop than pvp right now, so that's that.
  16. Eyeballing it from observation it seems to be approx 50%. Unless you have insane crafted ones and turret slots to spare they aren't worth it imho. That said for salvage and mining turrets it can be worth it. I have crafted independent salvagers and they do great to shred small wrecks. I only had them crafted for their efficiency (48.5) but I don't regret them.
  17. Umm this is indeed weird. I read a couple of times that there were diminishing returns but I always assumed they were from people who misunderstood the crew issue vs build menu, but you provide convincing evidence they were right. Then again the current max speed you have is pretty good... and I suspect the issue might have to do with the fact it's an iron ship. Iron is one of the heaviest metals in the game. Also experiment with length vs volume, I think engines are volume based but there is a minimum size for them to be effective. Perhaps your engine is just too small to give anything?
  18. Yeah these lasers are strong indeed but notice that both consume energy and quite a bit of it too (the salvagers not so much but those lasers will drain your battery in a few seconds unless you have a huge generator). So there is a trade off, you can't keep those on full time... even with a lot of generators, a bunch of these will drain you in no time because the draw cumulative... Each second they draw more until it becomes unbearable.. and then they need time to get back to moderate consumption. I have 10 lasers that do 3500 each on my ship and they melt faces big time... but on boss fights, I need to keep my cool because I can only hold them for 15 secs or so.. and then I have to wait about as long for them to cooldown.
  19. The build menu shows the current speed/truss according to your current number of engineers... In other words, unless you have a large amount of extra engineers, the numbers you see in build mode mean nothing.
  20. Not sure what the fuss is about.. I keep hearing people have to wait for 5-10 min to calculate. I just calculated a 50 sector jump and it took exactly 2 seconds per sector, so 1min40. I know it's possible to get more than 50 reach, but that's already one hell of a jump. If we remove this, we'll be able to jump from one end of the galaxy to the next in 3 minutes.. Don't you think this would be overpowered? I'd be fine with a slight reduction from computer cores, but removing this altogether would be totally overpowered.
  21. I'd say the difficulties are fine as it is but the sheer gap in power between weapons and the extreme cases of crafted turrets make dps too easy to get... And shields in general are just too easy as well. Maybe there should be diminishing returns on shields or something.. I currently have 800k shields and I can just move into anything knowing I won't even break a sweat. This is an approx 750k total xanion ship.. took 2 hours or so to salvage the mats. In my prev game I had 1.5 million shields without modules... That was approx 1 million avorion ship.
  22. Still didn't feel much of a difference... I do tend to go heavy on shields though. Setting it to insane tonight, we'll see. I think in general the game has two issues... The custom turrets are OP... and shields are too easy to stack.
  23. I think the drops are fine as they are (well, maybe they could use a little bump or at the very least normalization, I've seen iron turrets that made more DPS than avorion turrets, that shouldn't happen).. but turret factories have some wild combinations sometimes that make absolutely no sense. The railguns I made last night for example... If we compare them with the railguns dropped by the "4", one of the bosses, which are considered to be good railguns vs everything else drop-wise.. they do 1300 ish per shot if I remember right, and shoot at like .8 per second.. so give or take 1kish omicron, not sustained because they overheat. The ones I crafted last night are exceptional, not even red... and they do ~2250 per shot which is almost double... but they have a fire rate of 12 per second.... I mean there is no common measure.. They are the same tech level, give or take... The dropped ones are red mine are yellow.. pretty sure both are xanium... That 27k omicron per turret vs a little over 1k... How do you explain such a huge difference? Heck I could use 2-3 of these and go beat the end boss pretty easily.. Whereas a full set of 30-40 of the dropped rails would be needed.. It's ridiculous. I suppose you can get those wild ones as drops too if you are extremely lucky... But the fact that you can just go and buy as many as you want from a turret vendor makes it insane.
  24. I'm 1 level from insane and I must say I didn't really see a difference between that and easy... Actually wondering if I did it right. And yeah, I did it for the heck of it just to see if it was actually going to be as powerful as advertised, figured it couldn't be... but it is.. I'm 1 shoting everything at xanion level with just a shiver of a touch on the mouse button.. Shields and hull, boom. And that's with just 10 of the turrets, didn't try 40.
  25. First thing I do is establish a base of operation near the core border and then just use several hyperspace modules to remove my cooldown and then I jump to all the green dots. Works best if you can get 2-3 civs together and map them all. I then work my rep up with those who won't talk to me by blowing up xsotan and pirates until I can at least buy/sell resources.. then I trade whatever low level mats i have to get to the min rep to build turrets/buy stuff. Next step is revisiting all the sectors which have turret builders.. set to exceptional and look at each type. Good salvagers are the first thing I want, but I'll take notes at each factory to see if they have insane turrets of any type. I found that railguns and lasers are best by far.. lasers are hard to beat when you find insane ones plus they share components with lasers so building a st of both is easy, most of the mats can be bought at the same time. To get the mats.. i use a buy/sell upgrade. First scout the map (you discovered dozens of green dots, hover them in map and find factories for stuff you need, jump, buy for 10, 20+ turrets For mats you can't find factories, just check tradeposts, you'll evntually find them. Also, use the mechat upgrade buy tab each time you warp to see if there is anything you need... Say you jump to a laser compressor sector, check prices, they might have lasr heads at the trade station... Las but not least keep illegal goods for the end.... And simply avoid sector patrols.
