  1. Well you can theoretically hide in space, but what would be probably much more different is distance... you can easily hide behind planet or asteroid, but you certainly won´t circle around anyone, as engagements range would be MUCH longer (I mean, even modern jets fight at ranges beyond visual detection, and modern ships fight over horizon, so in space the range would be even greater most likely)
  2. nah, engines are fine, you just fucked up because you apparently don´t have enough crew for your engines so they cannot run on their maximum power (and their efficiently is lowered by increasing the disparity between needed and available crew which comes with making it bigger)
  3. you sir, have obviously waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much free time. Fcking insane :o
  4. Beautiful is the word that comes to my mouth... Sleek, long, thin, beautiful. As for gif - smart people (not me, I was fool) use some gif recorder and press P in game for stats screen. In stats screen is model of your ship, that rotates 360degress at constant speed. Record that and there you go...
  5. Well its currently hard to balance anything, with such wild RNG deviations we have in game now... Balancing crew cost and such won´t work, because when you find one or two good trade routes, money will not present any problem for you in game (and it can be done so early, that you don´t have to care for them whole game). Balancing DPS by turret slots also won´t work, because its not possible to balance anything in game, when one lvl30 trinium turret gives you 300dps on 5km range, and another lvl30 trinium turret gives you 1000dps on 5km range. There is no way to balance this, unless rng spreads are cut down HARD. I mean, those deviations should be more like 30% max for same tech, not 300%... Same for trade routes, one gives you 200k per trip, another in neighbourhood sector gives you 10mil per trip... what the f***
  6. Not sure what you mean by "strafing thrusters"... Are you referring to Directional thrusters? Directional thrusters pretty much act on the ship the same way as regular Thrusters. Strafing thrusters, are directional thrusters facing sideways, so your ship can STRAFE (duh). This way, you don´t have to yaw/pitch as much, and you can just strafe away from collision path (which is usually faster than yaw+afterburner, and safer aswell, because you don´t have to enlarge your collision profile as you stay forward facing).
  7. Nah, there just should be bridge block, main command center of your ship :) It also should be point where potential first person camera would be placed.
  8. Holy fucking shit Oo Well, no wonder endgame feels easy for you mate! :D
  9. Or, when you have long ship... just slap directional thrusters on the ends. Worked for me
  10. Yeah, I fucked that up aswell... Even when making screenshots of stats page, it just didn´t come to my mind that I can make gif there :DD
  11. Hi, for testing and preview purposes, I recommend this mod: http://www.avorion.net/forum/index.php/topic,830.0.html This way you can easily /crew fill your ship, so it operates at standard efficiency, atleast in creative mode =)
  12. 1. Build new ship, same size of your previous one. BUT... 2. Make it as wide as it was long before (basically turn it 90 degrees) 3. Add gyros, watch pitch/yaw/roll now. 4. Conclude if gyros are bugged or if we just learned something new about physics :) I am curious myself :D
  13. Hi, you can´t post dropbox files with "home" in the link - as it will get me to home of my own dropbox :D Instead mouseover the file, click share and paste link from there
  14. true, i agree with that :) To be perfectly honest, when you build huge fcking battleship, you don´t build that to destroy few squadrons of corvettes or something like that... Such a ships will be designed to fight it in fleets against enemies of similar power, e.g. sieging huge stations or dealing with main forces of your enemies. And for that, MOST of its power and arnament would be something like enormous, half-ship-sized railgun placement capable of firing at three times the range of other weapons - because thats what would be most effective in combat of such ships. As such, this huge ship will certainly have some self defense capabilities, but its main arnament and focus will be against its comparable counterparts, while main line of defense of such ship would be its fleet escort, something like flak frigates and fighter squadrons. Lets face it, you wouldn´t ever leave such a huge investment unprotected and give enemy even the slightest chance to destroy it in non-favorable fight. The biggest advantage of your main defense SEPARATED from the body you are trying to protect, is that you can move your defense forward, effectively getting your main ship out of the reach of smaller craft. Imagine we have small, fast lasers for antifighter defense - basically same weapons that enemy fighters have. They have 10km range for example. Now when those fighters attack you, they start shooting from 10km range and before you can thin them out, our battleship would have taken some serious damage, its main arnament could be incapacitated or bridge destroyed... It would eventually win, but it would be strategical lose, as your main fleet firepower would be lost to units, which are much easily replaced. Now the same scenario, but most of your 10km lasers are mounted on 20 corvettes, each of them just slightly bigger than enemy fighters. When they attack, you just move your corvettes to advanced position, destroying enemy fighters before they can even reach fire range to attack main battleship. Some corvettes will be destroyed, but not much, because fighters have only two options - deal with corvettes first, and waste time, ammo, fuel and numbers in fight, which is not even their goal, or try to run straight to battleship, which will be almost suicidal, as there is basically no hope to survive, even if they manage to do few attack runs... Best example is seen in real life, aircraft carriers don´t move alone, and while they certainly have selfdefense capabilities, they mainly depend on their fleet of resupply ships, anti-submarine escorts, anti-AA aegis equiped destroyers, with their own fighters possible covering outer area of its sphere of influence.
