  1. I just wanted to share some of the problems I discovered while attempting to build a stable server for hosting this game. I hope the information helps other people who choose the host for their communities. I'm not a huge fan of filler so these points will be somewhat short. * People keep talking about thread speeds this and that etc. -I have observed the thread speed never goes beyond 3.45 GHz and generally stays level right at 3.4 without really taxing my CPU's. * The norm seems to be moving towards hosting on the cloud, which has worked for me and many others really well. I have discovered some issues that keep this game engine from performing properly on the cloud. The game does not play well with Dynamic Memory assignments. It has been my observation that the game spikes and drops ram too rapidly for the Dynamic ram process to keep up along with the os incorrectly reporting how much it needs. I have had so many issues where the game constantly locks CPU threads, specifically the worker threads and hangs up the cpu to a full stop. -The game will run virtualized, however dynamic ram must be disabled and you must have a truly dedicated allocation of ram. I have figured this to be roughly 2GB for ever 5 players. So at the end of the day this rules out 99.9% of cloud hosts. The entire point of a cloud is to over allocate and share resources. A dedicated machine can run the game just fine in a hyper-visor for resource control or bare metal. -The CPU faults that are occurring, from the best information I could find, occur because the RAM pressure gets to high and Linux has some issues with how it reports how much RAM it needs vs how much is actually allocated by the hyper-visor, so essentially the server runs out of usable ram and starts causing issues. Some other notes on hyper-visors, I have found that Type 1 Hyper-visors work best, Type 2's seem to be a little bit more touchy, but this could be due to the dynamic memory, or the lack of integration into the guest OS. Specifically, I found VM-Ware's type 2 to have incredibly poor performance with Avorion. Hyper-V seems to work really well both installed on a guest OS and on bare metal. Ubuntu 18.04 works great with this, and is specifically design collaborated between Microsoft and Ubuntu to work together in Hyper-V. Also, for some of you using SSD's. I have found Raid 0, or 5 work best. Raid 6 is really not needed with an SSD imo. 0 gives no redundancy, and raid 5 can rebuild one failed drive. My current production server is a Power Edge R610 with 48GB RAM and 6 EVO860's in raid 5. My processors are 5680's that run 3.3 to 3.6GHz. This gives me 24 cores and up to 192GB ram to throw at Avorion. The entire build cost me around $1,895 including rack, networking gear, UPS, an H700 raid controller, and all the accessories to make things look nice. I know that the popular opinion is use a high end gaming machine yada yada yada, I disagree. And its fine. You build yours and I will build mine. What I can say right now is that my server is running with 20+ players at an average load balance of 18% and no lag, even during combat. As an added bonus, this server can do so much more than host a single game. So once Avorion depreciates, or the community moves on, I can re-purpose this server to a lot more than what a standard desktop could do. I guess this last bit is just me saying, I got my monies worth. I hope some of this helps others figure out the best solution for themselves.
  2. The new enterprise grade server for US1 is online and stable. Please come join us for the new fresh start! Experience the game as it was meant to be played! with NO lag and all the friends you could want!
  3. Make it a setting? Force use of shipyards instead of being able to use magic building mode. Then everyone can decide for themselves. easy peasy.
  4. I would like to host a second US Rusty server, I do not request any admin privileges or any special treatment. I just want to provide the hardware and give more room for US players to enjoy the Rusty experience since the current server limit of 28 can fill up fast. I can dedicate a box with 16gb Ram, an SDD and 8 cores. I also have a dedicated fiber 1gb connection on this box and prof grade net hardware on the my end. I know you don't need this much power for the game currently, but I have it available and would like to offer to host a rusty mod server free of charge.
  5. Thank you! Works great now!
  6. I am trying to install your mod and get it up and running, but when I go to use the shipyard I get a grey screen and I cant see any selections. https://prnt.sc/k6d5zm
