  1. I played 250 hours of Avorion almost 2 years ago, and just started playing again after getting a couple friends to buy it. Unfortunately, they're probably going to refund it and I can't blame them. You've made so many good changes but reputation requirements are ruining your game! You have all these great different ways to play Avorion, but now you can't do lots of them because of reputation. Like you give a tutorial on how to control multiple ships but then you can't because you need a captain, you finally find one to hire and you can't because you don't have reputation. You fight off a couple waves of pirates to up your rep, and its not even a drop in the bucket.. Same for certain systems and turrets. The RNG of equipment has always been a little frustrating in this game and now that you have more strict reputation requirements it feels REALLY bad. Especially considering that you haven't setup a great system for gaining reputation. I'm just confused on why this was added, and who thinks it's good for the game. If you want to add it to late game sectors and high level items, fine, but it is making the early game experience sooo bad, especially for new players.
  2. Difficulty is set to "Difficult" but might be increased in the near future. There are no mods that give any extra power at this time so this difficulty is pretty similar to other "Insane" servers. Collision is at 20%, personally I don't think cruising along not noticing a tiny asteroid that rips apart your entire ship is a fun game mechanic.
  3. Hey guys - I just made our private server public this weekend after upgrading the ISP to a 150down/150up Fios connection. There's a lot I'm still updating but the idea is that it will be a lightly modified server that is mostly PVE but will allow PVP at the core. I also plan to run it slightly like we did our old NWN server where there will be certain admin-ran player events. Sort of like boss/raid style scheduled events. We also might host some scheduled PVP events, for example I might find an empty sector and create two temporary Alliances/teams, and create stations for each and have them fight it out, OR i might make a slow ship and the first person to get theirs into the other teams station wins, that sort of thing. Anyway, none of the up-coming changes will require a wipe. So feel free to join now. Thanks! 4. Can you run this along side carrier command or do they break each other?
  5. We've gotten some inexplicable lagg without other menus in our servers, but my best guess would be its something with the alliance cargo fighters. Anything running automated like that isn't very efficiently coded yet, and can cause CPU or Upload spikes. Here's how I would test it though: Take your server down for 10 minutes. Copy/make a backup of the whole thing. Relaunch it, and delete allll your alliance fighters, see if the lag gets better, if not, delete the stations. If either of those make a huge difference then you know thats the problem. If those are the problem then compare your upload bandwidth and CPU usage from when you have no fighters, to when you go back to the backedup version of the server and see if anything stands out. You also might try playing around with some minor settings, like in the server.ini file you can specify worker and script threads. Maybe try increasing those, and maybe try setting the CPU priority on the avorion server .exe to highest priority? I've made about 20 changes to mine trying to make sure it works well and im not sure what actaully helped at this point. You could also try putting the server on a DMZ on your network for a bit to rule out any sort of firewall/port forwarding issues... Hope that helps!
  6. Hey, my friends and I are in the same boat. About 5 of us just started playing and are loving it, running on our own dedicated server. But with 5 casual players theres rarely more than 2 of us online at once. I think it would be really fun to have a two faction versus server. Sort of an us vs. you type of thing? Not like go rape each others home bases or nasty PVP necessarily, I don't think either of us would like that. But maybe no PVP before 200 sectors out and from there everything is totally contested? I don't know, if its something you guys would be interested we can talk about combining/joining. Not sure everyone would want to start over, we've only been playing for 2 weeks but some of us are already pretty far in. Maybe we could see which of us has the better server (performance wise) and then host a new galaxy so everyone can start at the same time. If youre interested message me on here or I can hop on your discord to bang out details. LIke I said we also have a dedicated server and discord channel.
  7. Hey there, two things I guess you could try. 1 - If it works when the .ini file is set right but steam or something just keeps changing it, then simply make the .ini file read only. There's no reason the game needs to be writing to this file. 2 - If that doesn't work then could you just join by IP?
  8. Hey guys, I've looked around a little for this here and across the web with somewhat lacking or very mixed results so I'm posting here, sorry if its a repeat. My friends and co-workers just started playing Avorion and really love it, there's about 6 of us playing now and we're all a bunch of newbs but in another week or so I'd like to open it up/make it public and I have some questions and concerns around. 1 - I'm hosting on an older but good, dedicated computer. Fresh Win10 Pro install, with 3.2ghz quadcore i5 and 8gb ram, 2xSSD's in Raid1 for redundancy. Should this be enough to support 15 players at once? 2 - My internet connection is 80 down, 20 up. Obviously the up is the only concern, but i have nothing else using my upload so I think thats decent. Enough for 15 people? 3 - Right now I'm hosting in the simplest (maybe worst) way, just running the server command/batch files. I've looked at two other ways of hosting that sound better, GSM Game Server Manager, and some Steam Server App. What do other people have success with? I like the look of GSM but haven't heard much of people using it for Avorion. 4 - If I make my server public for others to join, are there any mods that people consider almost mandatory? Or other settings I should make sure I've enabled? Thanks!!
